EMG EMG-85 Humbucking Active Guitar Pickup:
While the EMG-85 has a higher output than the EMG-81, it has a different frequency response and overall tone. The EMG-85 has two Alnico magnet coils that with a wide aperture which gives this pickups it's beefy low end and a fatter top. Since this pickup has a more natural tone, it works fantastically as a rhythm/blues/neck pickup, with lots of output, but is definitely not muddy. This pickup is best paired with the EMG-81, which will typically be used as the lead/bridge pickup.
The midrange of this pickup is great and doesn't get muddy in the rhythm position. The EMG-85 works great under natural distortion that comes from overdriving the front end of your amp. But non-the-less this pickup has a sharp and accurate response under almost any condition.
